Bulloch Columns
Bulloch House stairs, Georgia Historical Society
In the central hall of the Bulloch House, a spiral staircase rose within a circle of six Corinthian columns. The stair was completely free-standing and the surrounding columns decorated with gilt.

"For power and originality these three houses (Richardson, Scarbrough, Bulloch) represent experiments in space unsurpassed in America until Thomas Jefferson built the oval rooms and free-form halls at the Rotunda of the University of Virginia."
-- Frederick D. Nichols
